Did you know that the person who invented Botox was an eye doctor?

However, she and her husband, a dermatologist, failed to patent the anti-wrinkle drug which they discovered in Canada in 1987.

Dr. Jean Carruthers and Dr. Alastair Carruthers tested the toxin on their receptionist, according to reports.

“She had remarkable frown lines and said, 'Oh sure, treat me,’” recalled Jean. “We had only to see her to say, 'Oh, this does work.’ You could see a huge difference.”

The couple authored a research paper on their findings four years later. However, they failed to patent the drug, which is now a renowned anti-wrinkle injectable. They missed out the fame and fortune.

“It has changed so many lives, including my own,” explained Jean. “I missed out on that (the fortune), but we have had the most enriching experience using it on patients over the years. Women feel so much better about themselves when they look good.”
