Xin “Faith” He, the owner of a Bellevue beauty salon, has been sentenced to 13 months imprisonment by the District Court of Seattle. He was accused of injecting customers with fake Botox and Restylane, which caused critical damage to some of them.

He pled guilty on one count of misbranding a drug and two counts of receipt and delivery of an adulterated device. Xin ran the Natural Beauty salon in Bellevue and injected a counterfeit version of Restylane, a prescription-only anti-wrinkle drug. The substance scarred some of the clients, according to the report of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“I am sorry really sorry for what I have done,” said He in court. “I painfully accept this.”

He was a qualified manicurist, but not a medically-licensed doctor—a status that is necessary in order to administer Botox and Restylane.

According to federal reports, a Snohomish woman visited He’s Natural Beauty salon in 2004 and was injected with a suspicious-looking substance that was drawn from a bottle with Chinese characters. Apparently, the clinic told her that the substance was Restylane, but shortly after the appointment she became infected.

Her face became inflamed and she sought treatment from a dermatologist.
