Allergan leads fight against Botax PDF Print E-mail

Allergan is lobbying against the proposed “Botax”—the proposed 5% tax on elective cosmetic procedures, including Botox. However, the cosmetic company does not expect the tax to affect business.

Botax will try to raise money for the expensive healthcare reform bill. It was a late addition to the proposed bill.

Allergan, which manufactures several cosmetic products, is lobbying against the Botax. David Pyott, the company’s CEO, says that the tax is a bad policy.

Pyott explained that customers the industry is not an area of medicine and does not burden the healthcare system.

Allergan has already set up www.stopcosmetictax.com, a site dedicated to the cause. The company has also set up accounts in Facebook and Twitter, where they lobby against Botax as well.

However, Pyott is confident that the effect of the tax will only be marginal. He says that the bigger impact would be felt more by big procedures, like breast augmentation.
