Allergan and Medicis are lobbying against the proposed 5 percent tax on elective cosmetic surgeries. The so-called “Botax” will arrive on Senate floor on Saturday for further deliberation.
However, do these companies have a strong case in lobbying against this five percent tax?
Some analysts say that these companies should embrace the idea of Botax. Such a tax would make the federal government more dependent on them for revenue, giving them more political clout in Congress. These companies can use this clout to influence legislative changes in the future.
The bill seeks to implement Botax in order to fund for the healthcare of the masses.
Even before hitting the senate floor, the bill has received opposition from cosmetic companies and even gender-equality advocates. Allergan even stated that the bill discriminates against women, because more than 80 percent of elective cosmetic surgery patients are female.
