How will the American government fund the $849 billion health care plan?
Democratic party Senator Harry Reid says that implementing a 5% tax on elective cosmetic surgery will be a good source of funding. The “Botax” (as it is aptly called by analysts) can raise up to $5 billion.
The “Botax” is a part of a comprehensive 2,074-page Bill, which is a compilation of work performed by several Senate Committees. The Bill will be heading to the Senate floor next Saturday and already the GOP has committed to blocking it. However, analysts say that they will need the support of Democrat Senators to do so.
“We're not going to add a dime to the deficit, in fact, quite the opposite,” commented Senator Reid. “We'll cut the problems we have with money around here by as much as three-quarters of a trillion dollars.”
Citing statistics from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Reid stated that the Health Care Plan can reduce the deficit by up to $130 billion within the next decade. He also said that over 94% of Americans will be the recipients of the coverage under the Bill.
The senator will need at least 60 Senate votes to push this plan forward.
