Have you ever heard of a Botox party?

In Melbourne, socialites host gimmicks known as Botox parties, where doctors inject women with Botox in lounge rooms.

The guests are usually women aged 20-50 years old. They gather every three months to get Botox, while having some champagne and fun in the process.

The anti-wrinkle drug has made a big name for itself in Melbourne, partly due to celebrity endorsements. However, medical practitioners have raised health concerns regarding Botox parties. Physicians say that some guests end up being pressured to get a treatment that they didn’t need in the first place.

Dr. Gabrielle Caswell, president of the Cosmetic Physicians’ Society of Australia, criticized doctors for administering Botox outside of the clinic. Dr. Caswell says that the treatment should be given only after a secure consultation between the patient and the physician. Patients should be examined carefully and the treatment shouldn’t be injected in a party environment.

However, Botox parties continue to be held. And one anonymous Botox party said that her parties don’t pressure guests to taking Botox. She firmly believes that her parties are perfect for women who want to socialize and feel good about themselves at the same time.

She also mentioned that drinks are only served after the injections. She says that the Botox parties that pose serious health risks are the ones that hire unregistered doctors to administer the anti-wrinkle drug.
