There is now a new alternative to Botox—Dysport.

The anti-wrinkle drug recently gained US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. According to its package insert, the product works faster than Botox and it also lasts longer. And because it’s a new product, most physicians offer it at a discounted price.

According to Dr. Jeffrey E. Schreiber, who has used Dysport in his clinic, the new cosmetic injectable has generated “fantastic” results. Like Botox, he is used it to treat fine lines in the forehead area. Dysport paralyzes the muscles to eliminate these age lines.

Both drugs work well, said Dr. Schreiber. The competition between the two will make them both more efficient in terms of marketing and administering. But the most important factor, as Dr. Schreiber emphasized, is knowing where to get the injections.

He says, “be safe and choose someone carefully to do you injections.” While eliminating wrinkles sounds very pleasing, your main concern should be health and safety. You can secure health and safety by consulting with a certified physician and getting a second opinion (and a third one if necessary).

Lastly, make sure you get proper medical tests before having the treatment done. Botox has been known to cause adverse allergic reactions. That’s why it’s worth your time to get through the necessary precautions before having the treatment performed.
