London clinics have reported a surge in bookings for Botox to meet the summer heat.

The procedure (dubbed as “sweatox”) involves injecting Botox into the armpits or other sweaty parts of the body. It will stop perspiration for about seven months.

Temperatures around the country are expected to rise next week. That’s why doctors are expecting more appointments for sweatox. The Harley Medical Group said that bookings are already up by 40 percent this year.

“Although we saw a marked increase in what has been dubbed ‘sweatox’ last year, bookings over the past month have outstripped demand in 2008,” attested Liz Dale of the Harley Medical Group.

“I have suffered from excess sweating since I was a teenager,” said Laure Keeling, a 28-year-old teacher who underwent the procedure last month. “No deodorant worked and I ended up just wearing black so the marks would be less visible. I was a real sweaty betty.”

Keeling had 25 injections under each armpit and it was done in 15 minutes.

“It took a week or two to kick in but now I'm able to wear anything I like,” she said. “I've read about having my sweat-glands lasered out altogether. That costs about £3,500 but it's something to think about.”

Sweatox only costs £500 in London clinics, making it a more viable option for Londoners.
