Cosmetic surgeons have released a warning after finding out that fake Botox was for sale in eBay.

The Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australia (CPSA) claims that UK-based listing for the cosmetic drug treatment has been pulled out of the global online site.

The CPSA president Dr. Mart Dingley said that the incident raised issues about safety and legal concerns, because in Australia Botox needs to be prescribed by a doctor.

“It should certainly not be made available for anyone to buy without consultation, via the internet,” commented Dr. Dingley. “Furthermore, there is no guarantee that what you are buying actually is what the label says, so you would question its safety even if it were properly administered.”

Australian law requires Botox to be prescribed and administered in a safe, medical environment.

The regulator also mentioned that it is continuing its campaign against illegal and dangerous practices linked to Botox parties.

“We are working with the relevant authorities to try and eliminate these misleading practices,” said Dingley. “If you are considering a cosmetic treatment ensure you visit a qualified doctor.”
