Reloxin delayed and consumers should work on anti-wrinkle treatments at home PDF Print E-mail

The FDA regulators are not expected to act until April on Reloxin—the new anti-wrinkle treatment that is poised to compete with Botox. But there are many ways one can combat wrinkles, so consider this a list of temporary solutions to fend-off those ugly age lines.

Botox and Reloxin are diluted forms of botulinum toxin, which causes facial muscles to contract to remove wrinkles. Currently, Botox is the only choice among the two, but you still have many FDA-approved alternative fillers:

•    Restylane, Juvéderm and Hylaform are fillers that are made from hyaluronic acid gel that plumps up the skin.
•    Radiesse is made from calcium hydroxylapatite—a mineral that is found in the bone.
•    Sculptura is made from a biodegradable substance called poly-L-lactic acid, which is effective on fine lines and wrinkles.
•    Artefill is made from tiny microspheres, which can fill wrinkles and stimulate the body to produce its own collagen for youthful skin.
•    Collagen can also be used to plump up the skin.
