Generally, Botox is a cosmetic injection that creates younger skin. However, recent studies have proven that this vanity drug also has medical applications. The latest findings suggest that it can alleviate eye muscle spasms.
The FDA has confirmed that diluted Botox can strengthen weak muscle spasms, which are the source of involuntary eye twitches. When Botox is injected to the eye muscles, the chemical relaxes the muscle. This decreases tension and prevents it from involuntarily moving. Aside from that, the injection also gets rid of furrows, making the patient look younger.
However, just as with Botox cosmetic treatments, this eye application is temporary. Patients will have to repeat injections if they want to maintain the eye muscle benefits.
