Allergan Inc., which manufactures eye care products and Botox injections, spent $460,000 to lobby biotech research to the US Congress.
The California-based company is supporting a bill that is designed to give the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to approve generic versions of biotech drugs. Biotech drugs, unlike chemical drugs, don’t have generic counterparts because the FDA does not have the authority to approve cheaper copies. The bill is slated to be discussed by Congress next year.
In addition to that, Allergan also lobbied for other bills, which provide tax credits to companies that invest in research and development and renewable energy.
