The Harley Medical Group, UK’s largest cosmetic surgery provider, strongly recommends that the company’s patients settle for smaller dosages of Botox. On occasion, the company has turned down patients, who demanded for the treatment, which they didn’t need.
Reports throughout the US suggest that women are abusing Botox injections to the point that it no longer looks natural on their faces. This condition is now known as ‘wrinklerexia’. It happens when Botox devotees become obsessed with the treatment, to the point that their faces look frozen.
“Used properly, Botox is a fantastic cosmetic surgery treatment giving smoother, tighter, and more youthful looking skin” commented Liz Dale, the director of the Harley Medical Group. Dale continued, “But like with any procedure, it’s highly unadvisable to have more than is necessary.”
Dale maintained that at the Harley Medical Group, “all Botox treatments are administered by specially trained doctors who will look out for signs of a Botox ‘habit’ and will advise patients according to needs.”
For the cosmetic surgery industry, this highlights the tension between ethics and profit. Most surgeons would continue offering Botox treatments, as long as the patients have the money to pay for them. However, there are times that this approach transgresses physician’s ethics. The bottom line is, too much is always the wrong way to go.
