Amanda Barr, 44, laid in front of a 90mph train because she was severely depressed over her emerging wrinkles.
She was very preoccupied with the aging of her skin, and would not even let her partner kiss her on the cheek, for fear of future damage. Se claimed that she could pinpoint the exact date of emerging wrinkles, wrinkles that were invisible to all others.
She left a suicide note apologizing for all the grief and hurt that her actions would induce, but said that “I just can’t live with myself any longer”.
The woman was on a stress break from work, and often talked about ending her life at the crossing train spot, which she referred to as her thinking spot.
In the weeks before ending her life, she had told her partner that she realized that suicide was not the right thing to do, and she believed that her skin condition would improve.
The woman refused any medication for her skin problems, in the fear that it would worsen her wrinkles. She agonized over every blemish, and would not even take the garbage out; for fear that the wind would worsen her skin.
Days before her suicide, she visited with a mental health professional, who diagnosed her with having depression, and commented that, “she was in a state of grieving for her lost looks.”
